EA’s Bid Deadline For Take-Two Will Not Be Extended

By Jordan Snyder

Electronic Arts’ $2 billion offer for Take-Two Interactive has come to an end, and the deadline wasn’t extended. Right now, EA’s John Riccitiello and T2’s Strauss Zelnick are talking things over, and it’s unknown how the situation will progress. Michael Pachter, of Wedbush Morgan Securities, said that no matter what, “A deal is going to get done.”

Stories like this prove that the gaming industry isn’t a land of happiness where everyone involved gets to play games all day, every day; it’s a business. EA needs T2 to compete with gaming behemoth Activision Blizzard, but, like I said, this is a business.

EA, of course, wants to offer less money, considering that they can no longer combine forces for the holiday season, a time when most revenue is accumulated, and because T2’s shares have fallen 4%. On the other hand, T2 wants a better offer due to their list of valuable upcoming games (in their opinion). A deal will eventually happen, but I predict it will be next year since EA will not be able to take advantage of Grand Theft Auto IV’s estimated high sales this holiday.
